About
Canvases
Although canvas was not a traditional medium for obvious reasons, it does
however provide the modern Aboriginal Artist with an easily obtainable
and very versatile medium on which he or she can paint.Our team of artists,
using modern acrylic paints and canvases of varying sizes produce some
of the most spectacular images currently available. With such a large
pool of artists we have a very diversified range of styles.
Our canvases range from the more typical "simple" traditional work through to the most complex and intricate cross hatching and dot work. It should be noted that in general Aboriginal Art is about communication. The telling of stories and the passing on of information from one generation to the next. Everything that is painted has a meaning and is painted for a reason. Simple things to the untrained eye like colour or the change of colour have significant meaning/s to those who want to look into the art not just at it.
Some of the interesting and exciting forms of art you can expect to find on our canvases would include;"X ray" art where the artist reveals the exterior of the animal/s plus possibly some of the internal organs and skeleton. "Mimi" art which is arguably one of the most graceful of all of the Aboriginal Art where small stick like people or animals are depicted in various activities. "Symbolic" art patterns feature diagonal, parallel or concentric lines with each line, shape or change of direction has a special significance to the artist. "Free art" is literally as it means. The artist paints straight forward portrayals of any number of natural features, animals, people, trees, rocks, bird’s etc. "Dot art" uses an incredible array of dots placed on the medium to tell a story. Small, large varying coloured dots are painstakingly painted on to the medium using dipped sticks. The patience alone required to master this form of painting makes the finished piece even more special. "Cross hatching" is simply the use of overlapping or crossed lines of varying colours, usually the base earth colours, to form interesting designs or as fill in for animals or people.

Australian Authentic Dreamtime Art also provides a professional framing
service for those customers wishing their original canvas framed behind
glass and in either a natural timber or black laminate frame. The stretching
of your canvas's on a timber frame is also available.
